THE SNOWDON CLASSIC SCATTER 2011
The purpose of this thread is to give you further information about the 2011 Snowdon Classic Scatter.
When is this event and where will it start and finish?
This event will take place on Sunday the 24th of April 2011 (Easter Sunday). It will start in the seaside village of Dinas Dinlle and will finish at the same location as last year; the Mountain Rangers Club in the village of Rhosgadfan.
What is a scatter??
A scatter involves navigating your way to various ‘controls’ which have been ‘scattered’ on a map and either a) Copying down a code off a ‘code board’, b) Collecting a signature off a marshal, or c) Taking a picture of your car next to a landmark as proof that you have visited that location.
The emphasis of a scatter is on navigational skills and not on speed. The roads we will be using are all sealed surface ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘Yellows’ on an Ordnance Survey Landranger series map. The event will take place during the day.
The location of these controls will be given to you as a six figure map reference. If you are taking part in the Snowdon Classic Scatter then these references will be ppsted out to you one week before the event. If you want to take part in the Snowdon Classic Masters Scatter then you will be given your referances on the morning of the event. Some of the controls will be open for the duration of the event, while others will only be open for an allocated period of time. Controls that are difficult to find, that are far away or are only open for a short period of time will be worth more points than a fixed control which may only be worth a small points value.
Your aim in the allocated 3 hours will be to visit as many of these points as you can in any order that you so wish. The location of these points will have been devised in such a way that it would be impossible to visit them all in the time allowed. The crew who has collected the most points within the allocated time will be the winners. In the case of a tie, it will be decided in favour of the crew who collected the highest number of points first.
What will I need to compete on this event?
You will need the following things:-
1) A car, but preferably a classic mini
2) A copy of OS Landranger Map number 115 (Snowdon)
3) A pencil to plot your controls
4) Some kind of board to hold your map
5) A digital camera of some sort (a mobile phone camera will be sufficient) to take photos of your car next to various landmarks.
6) Someone who will sit in with you to read the map!
Do I need a competition type vehicle to compete?
Absolutely not. A standard road car is all that is required.
Will I require a competition Licence from the Motorsports Association?
No. Snowdon Minis is not an MSA affiliated club and therefore a licence is not required
Will the event have rules and regulations?
To ensure fair play for all, a set of simple rules will be in place for this event.
Can I bring my family?
A crew will be defined as two or more people in a car therefore yes by all means.
If you want further information then please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ger via this forum. |

What is a "roamer"?
How much are they?
Are they idiot proof?
Not being from a ramblin/rallying background I have no idea what they are! _________________
